filming (Grovehill)

Finally we were ready to film. We were aware of that it was very late for us to film and that we needed to catch up really quickly.  The Sunday before we filmed which was Monday we planned out what we needed and what we were going to wear. In the scene there was Iram and I. Sana and Jamiul were the director and the cameraman. I thought it would be an advantage if we had two cameras so that we can use two of them at ones or check shot angles and find the correct position, therefore before monday i had to get the cameras ready in full charge. i was a very cold day and we struggled filing because we was very cold as a team, however the day and the location was perfect or a murder scene so we was happy in that way.

Before we started filing we took try shots and practiced thought the scene so that there there wasn't any mistakes occurring while filming. the cameraman which was Jamiul made sure the angle was correct angle for the scene and that it would be the best shot as possible. As you can see heir we are going though the scene without no pressure of camera. However we also took it while filming so that we cam see how it looks through the camera view.

The scene starts with Iram walking through a alley way and the murder is there to. However when Iram heirs noises and when she turns around and there is nothing behind her, however when she turns again killer is there to take her down.

These are videos which have been taken from a amateur phone Camera. We did this because it was important to get the hint of shooting a scene in the correct angle. We also wanted to go thorough the scene roughly therefore we needed a camera that could be paused and while recording so we used my phone and went through the scene.

Risk Assessment

This is the Risk Assessment that Iram has created for the film. The reason Iram done it was when we done the action plan we decided her to do the task when we had separate other tasks to complete. This was a fairly important report before we started filming because it involved our health and safety in the scene. The report informs us about he risks we might have while filming and will help us get away from them.

My Costume

In a film or a scene a costume is very important for the actors to get the mood to the audience in a good and right way. The actors background and personality will effect the costume, because i am the killer in the film and that i will be murdering i needed to get costume which fitted a killer or a murder. I needed costumes which covered my face and was not eye catchy. i looked into my wardrobe and found some boring black trousers and a hoodie which looked rough and scary when hood was on. i also had a pear of gloves which would of fitted a murders equipment nicely so that there is no finger prints around. i also found some trainers which suited my trousers. Because i wear glasses myself i needed to involve glasses in the costume to the glasses were simple glasses and it didn't really matter because my face will be covered while filming.

The Logo production

As a group for the production company we needed to create and design a logo which was attractive and also had an image of filming. Personally this task was a vey hard and needed a lot of idea to create a logo. First of all i struggled with the name of the film production company. As i said on the other blog i had some ideas for the name of the production company. I have discussed the name with the group and we came up with RIJS. The meaning RIJS is the first letters of our names, (Ruhan, Iram, Jamiul, Sana). I though the first letter of our names would be symbolic individually.

RIJS Production

the logo was a hard step and i was struggling to get ideas, i decided to make couple of logos and compare them. This would of give me more wider image of the logos and decide in more clear view. I wanted to use many ways to create logos, this is because i wanted to experience different styles and see which one is better for logos. For logos i have used Microsoft word, pixlr.com and visitprint.co.uk. i have also looked on app store on my mac to see if there is any app which could help me create a logo, yes there is but very expensive to purchase. Here are some of the logos that i have designed or tried to design!
her is the way i did the logo with the tools on the side. as you can see it looks simple but i think i could get the hang of it after couple of tries.

i wanted to add a bit of colour therefore i searched on Google for a image or a background that i could use with the name. I found couple of images but the most one which fascinated me was

This was the first time i was using the pixlr.com, our teacher suggested us to use if for any designs we make because it was easy to use. i didn't now much about the edit website therefore i was just playing with the tools. The images needed to be suitable for the film and production industry so i searched for images like film projector, film strips, film feel and film camera. I have also used windows word to create some logos in a simple way. I designed theses logos to get some idea of what I could do with the name and the images that I have searched. The logos were simple but it had the look of a film production company, I want the logo to be simple but effective on the other hand and that’s a hard combination to match.

The Preliminary Video

Before we started our 2-minute movie we needed o get some experience with the camera and blend into our groups. Therefore the teacher gave us a task for us to communicate and also test the equipment that we will be using. Luckily I know my group form Long dean School. Iv known them for 3-4 years so I didn’t feel strange between them. The first thing we did was to check the equipment, which was provided to us by the media department. They whore expensive products therefore we needed to be very careful. Before the task we were given as homework to do a story bored for the video all of us completed it but forgot to bring the story bored, thankfully our group member Jamiul had it so we used he’s story bored for that day.  While me and Jamuil was setting up the camera the girls which was Sana and ihram was going through the story bored of what they need to do. The actors that we have decided as a group were going to be Sana and jamiul. The script was simple but was wasn’t experienced so it was a little bit hard for us to position our camera and the actors but we got there eventually. Sana was the first actor and Jamul was the second actor. Sana walking to the door putting her had on the door lead and opening it while Jamiul is sitting in the table reading the book that Sana has given. Sana goes inside sits across Jamiul and Jamuil gives the book to Sana. Then she gets up and goes back out. I was the one who was filming and Iram was the one who was setting up the positions of the actors by using the story bored.

The pictures we took while working on the video.
Me and Jamiul setting up the camera for the video to be recorded
Iram reading the storyboard and going through with the actor jamiul.
After we done the first video then we decided to make another one, with a different story. The actors was also diferent. this time it was me and Iram. This helped us more because this time we know what we was doing therefore it was more easier. as a group we was rushing in this video to complete it because the lesson was going to finished and the stairs would of been full of students.
sana getting used to the camera to capture the scene in comfort.

Me helping Sana getting the setting done and showing her how to recored and hold the camera.

Me and Iram going through the plan so that we wont make any mistakes while the camera is on record.

Sana giving us hints and tips about acting.

discussing the scene before the record.

Storyboard

This is my storyboard that i done after the video was captured. Like i said we used Jamiul's storyboard because none of the member of the group had there storyboard. the storyboard helps us a lot before the video was taken because we can image the scene and work it out in our minds before we do anything and this helps the group go get ready for the scene.

The Videos

This was the first video that we took as a group. The scene is very simple. The actors are Sana and Jamiul while me and Iram is the cameraman and the director. In the video Sana which is the first actor starts form outside the room. She walks towards the door puts her hand on the door handle and then opens it. At that time the camera changes position and shoots from inside of the room. The scene starts from the door handle and. Sana walks in and sits across Jamiul which is the second actor. they have a dialogue about a book Jamiul gives the book to Sana and Sana gets up and goes out the door.

We also done a second video and in this one the actors were me and Iram this tiem while Jamiul was the cameraman and Sana was the director. The scene was taken in the stairs. The first shoot was me while pushing the door. As soon as i open the door while on my way to the stairs Iram the second actors appears and we have a dialogue. After the dialogue is finished we carry on our way.

After we took the filming we needed to do the editing. Therefore i used Final Cut Express HD (the editing is shown up above). This is the final finish of the videos.

i have also uploaded the videos onYouTube to make it public to anyone around the world.

why we have done this
as a group it was our first time with the camera and first time we worked as a group. this made us gain more experience to working and communicate better, it also gave us more skill with using the camera and the camera equipment. we also experience how to act and dialogue amongst ourselves which will be very helpful when we recored our two minute video. Acting will be under lined in the movie, this means it needs to be close to professional and flexible while acting

Textural analysis X Man First Class

First class is a action trilling drama movie based on superheroes.  The film is set in the passed where it all began with x man and mutants. The film acts as a prequel for the X-Men trilogy, set primarily in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It focuses on the relationship between Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr and the origin of their groups, the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants.

camera

The scene starts with two characters in the film. Second character is steering outside to space while the other approach’s slowly which I the main character to start a conversation. We can see the camera is more focused on the second character more and at the background. Our eye is more on the character in the front rather than the main character.
This shot is a shoulder shot form the back of the character it is also a good way to show the viewers that what the second character was looking at. The conversation will switch form main character to the second one with the same angle shown in the scene.

On this scene we can see that the main attention is the satellite far away. And the character is faded doing he’s acting. The fading effect is mostly used in films to get another things attention of the viewers, This is called transition; We can see the director has used this effect to show the audience what the character is trying to do. (Moving the satellite).

All of these screens are similar to each other. We can see that the screen shots are taken with one character mostly shown but also a little bit of the other character the he’s having a conversation with is shown to. This shot is mostly used when the characters are dialogue from close. There camera angle could change all the time form one character to another, this will make the viewer to feel and understand the conversation more in the film. This shot could only be used when two characters are close to each other

When the characters are far away we can see that the shots are more only of one character. There is still a dialog between them but the shot is taken one of the actors in the scene. The frame switches back and forward while they have their conversation.

This shot is a flashback of the actor in the passed. At this point the audience is shown a scene happened in the film. The fade effect is also used her to slowly get the audiences into the scene.

This shot is taken by a high angle with two of the characters in the same shot.  There a character having a conversation, which the camera stays steady, and the conversation carry’s on.
sound
Sound tracks in films are as important as the actor’s successful talent and the effects that have been used. Soundtracks are the most important part in getting the mood of the film showing the viewer. The type of soundtrack been used in the film depends on what kind of genre the film is set on. Film the film is set in comedy then the soundtrack need to fit well to force this effect and show it to the viewers. The soundtracks used in the background of the film will focus the viewer to get into the mood that the director wants therefore it has a big role in the film industry.

Mise en scene
In the two-minute scene the set in based outside of a big mutant mansions balcony. As we can see its set in daylight with medium weather condition which gives the audience a relaxing safe atmosphere. The set is light and bright but not a light, which disturbs the audience’s eyes. The balcony seems like a very peaceful place with the flowers and trees, which suggests it’s going to be a non-action scene. The costumes of the actors are casual which suggests us that they live at the mansion.

Why i did this
personally i needed to understand why the shots were taken in a angle in the film. for the first film analysis i choose a film that i already know, so that i know how to analysise a film and get the experiance. i also looked at the soundtracks been used and i realised why they used specific soundtracks. the reason was to catch the films rhythm and get the audience into the mood they need to be. I have also looked at the mice en scene which is the prop, costume, location, lights ects.

Action Plan

As a group today in the media lesson we had a formal meeting about the action plan. One by one we have planned what we will be doing in the week ahead. The first thing we had in mind was to right the titles of what we will need to do and talk about each title one by one, what we need to involve.

  • the location scouting
  • camera angles
  • logo drafts
  • title drafts
  • Risk assessment
  • Age restriction
  • Questionnaire
  • Title design
  • pitch synopsis
We then split the tasks between us there was roughly 8 or 9 tasks and we was a group of 4 so we had tow tasks each to do. We did this to make it easier for us to concentrate in couple of tasks in more detail because if we had lots of tasks in our mind then we would be less organised and less detailed with some of the tasks. as a group we decided who is doing what and i was given the tasks of designing the logo and the title for the film production . i wanted this task to because i feel comfortable doing designs, i also have ideas in mind which could be good to use in my logo design for the film production. I also have names for the film production which i came up with in the bus while coming home.

  • RIJS Production
  • DirectFilm Production
  • Act film Production
  • Nation Production
  • Royal Productions
  • Sky film productions
  • Star Productions

her are some of the title names for our the film production company . i Havant really though of it much but these came to my mind in the bus so i wanted to share it. in the next meeting of the group i will ask the group about these names and they might have ideas. I will then look into more detail of the titles. why this name? what link has it got? etc

9th November 2011- Camera Technology

In the class today our teacher had the cameras out and a presentation about the camera, how to use it. We had Pease of paper in front of us and we were asked to list all the things we need in a successful film shoot. The teacher gave us about a minute to think and put on the paper. After the teacher told us what actually we need in a film shoot and this is the list

Camera
Camera is the main equipment to have in a film shoot, to recored the film into a tape or a memory stick. no camera no filming simply.

Tape/Memory stick
The camera will need to record it into something. this could be more than one because the scene might be long which means it will cover more space on the tape or memory stick.

Props
Is one of the most important details which changes the mood and the tone of the film. This could have a effective contribution to the film.

Location
It is extremely important finding the right film location, as it is important for the success of any film footage. I believe that location creates a huge difference in the quality of the film. The location must be easy to get to as equipment and film staff may be moved back and fort easily and efficiently.

Health And Safety
Because the scene has a lot of equipment and a lot going on at ones there will be a lot of dangers and threats. the location of the scene might be involving danger to therefore it is important to keep the crow member and the actors in safe in all times.

Script
One of the hardest things to do as a film maker is the script, the script is very important so that it could make the actors go through there dialogues without getting stuck.

Actors
In most the the scenes the film star actors are used. therefore it is important to have them on the scene ready for action. however in some scenes the actors are not needed because a land scape or something else is shoot and not the actors.

backstage staff
Without no backstage staff which is the film crew, to make a film is impossable. this sis because the scene will need people who has roles and responsibilities

Test Equipment Works
before shooting the film it is important to test all the equipment to make it safe and useable.

Storyboard
Before the scene is shoot it helps it visualise in your mind so that you get a idea how the shoot will be like.

Protective Equipment
Due to weather changes it is important that all equipment has bags or boxes in which they can safely be put away. It may start to rain during a film which is unexpected therefore filming equipment can be damaged therefore it is essential that they are prepared for the weather.

Credit (money)
making a film will cost a lot of money and even in some of the scenes it will cost more. This could be because of the location or any special needs.

transport
Getting to the location is a safe way is also important. the location might need special transport like helicopter or boats.

We then looked at some film scenes pictures and the way the camera is set with the colours and the mood that the scene gives to the audience.

This is a scene form the wonderful and touchy film Braveheart. As we can see form the colours it a very cool because of the blue thats been used and this suggests us that its full of anger and sadness in the film not only the face paint is blue but also the actors eyes and also the background is. This is extra effect of tension.

camera colour calibration
We also had a look at the camera and the way camera automatically sets the lens to fit the colours and effect.  we was told buy the teacher to set that as manual and do it our selfs. we had piece of papers one blue and one orange coloured papers. the only thing we needed to do is told the camera on the blue paper and set it this made the camera set it as if the area is blue so it gave the lease more orange to balance. This had given us a idea to use as a flashback in out two minute opening we were discussing to focus the camera on the blue paper which would set the camera to have a orange tone so the flash back scenery would look different to the other scenes. we also fidgeted with the effects that the cameras has which could be useful in our 2 minute movie.

why did we do this
Before starting the doing the film as a group we needed to now how to use the technology we have in the best way possible. Getting the chance to learn about the camera facilities will let us use the camera in more efficient way to do the best movie possible by using the maximum amount of facilities as we can.

Action films- genre

The action film genre is where there is one or more heroes who fights challenges that come on there way which requires physical frets, extended fights and frenetic chases.  While action has long been an element of films, the "action film" genre began to develop in the 1970s. The genre is closely linked with the thriller and adventure film genres, and it may sometimes have elements of spy fiction and espionage. Action film viewer tend to be fascinated by the action going on in the film which then excites them and enjoys there film. Action films and adventure films have tremendous cross-over potential as film genres, and road films often overlap with action films. Both types of films come in a variety of forms or genre-hybrids: sci-fi or space, thrillers, crime-drama, war, horror, westerns, etc.

20th century fox

The 20th century fox home entertainment is the home video distribution arm of the 20th century fox films studios. it is also best known for distributing the two highest-grossing films of all time, Titanic and Avatar. 20th century fox was two different companies which later on have merged. This happened in the year 1935, most people think the founded in 1915 however this date was the year when fox cooperation was founded.

Logo
As you now the 20th century foxes has a very attractive and eye catching logo. This logo was created in 1994 which has been found after many attempts. Kivin burns were hired for producing this logo for the company and used graphics to create this logo. The logo contains more detail of animation; altogether the logo takes 21 seconds and is shown before the film starts. In 2009, a newly updated CGI logo, done by Blue Sky Studios, debuted in the film Avatar. A 75th Anniversary version of this new logo was used to coincide with 20th Century Fox's 75th anniversary; it made its official debut with Percy Jackson & the Olympians: the Lightning Thief, and last appeared in Gulliver's Travels
